1...Na6?! · Lemming defence

[edit | edit source]

A rare and weak response to 1. e4. The knight develops to a square that doesn't control the centre and as such, it's a wasted opportunity.

This allows White to take the full centre with 2. d4. The most serious line is 2...c6, which transposes to the De Bruycker line of the Caro-Kann defence. 2...c5!? (defended by the knight on the rim) 3. Nf3 cxd4 leads to an unusual sort of Sicilian.

History

[edit | edit source]

The name "Lemming" comes from Eric Schiller.[1]
