[edit | edit source]Black puts their pawn in the centre. Play can transpose into the Paulsen variation after 3. d4 or the Two-knights after 3. Nf3.
3. exd5 transposes into the exchange French, but is somewhat inaccurate due to the knight blocking the c3-pawn, which would usually support the d4-pawn.
